- Percy Hynes White played psychic art student Xavier Thorpe, a potential love interest for Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams, in season 1 of *Wednesday*.
- The actor departed the series amid anonymous allegations of sexual assault that surfaced on social media.
- *Wednesday* season 2, part 1, is currently streaming on Netflix.
*Wednesday* season 2 unleashed its first four episodes on August 6, introducing many new characters to the shadowy halls of Nevermore Academy. With so many fresh faces, it might be easy to overlook the absence of some previous cast members.
For example, you won't see Naomi J. Ogawa's Yoko Tanaka in *Wednesday* season 2. But the most notable departure, however, is that of gaunt, artsy Nevermore student Xavier Thorpe, who was presented as a potential love interest for Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams.
Xavier was played by Canadian actor Percy Hynes White, and his character leaving the show came amid a much-publicized scandal. Below, we break down why Percy Hynes White isn't in *Wednesday* season 2 — and how the show addresses his absence.**

Hynes White was born in St. John's, the capital of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, to parents in the showbiz industry. His father, Joel Thomas Hynes, has credits on shows like* Orphan Black* and *Sullivan's Crossing, *while his mother, Sherry White, has worked as a writer and producer on *Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent* and *Frontier*, among other series.
Hynes White was still a toddler when he began acting onscreen. He was soon playing supporting roles opposite Brendan Gleeson and Ben Stiller in films like *The Grand Seduction *(2013) and *Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb* (2014).
These early opportunities gave way to larger roles on Canadian series such as *Murdoch Mysteries* (2014–2015) and *Between* (2015–2016). But it was his two-season run as mutant Andy Strucker on *X-Men* spinoff *The Gifted* (2017–2019) that increased his profile considerably.**

On *Wednesday*, Hynes White played Xavier Thorpe, an artistic student at Nevermore Academy with psychic abilities that allow him to bring his art to life.
"He's sort of this dramatic, very broody guy," Hynes White told the CBC in 2022. "He's this painter and he [has] some sort of psychic ability and he becomes a suspect in an investigation. He's this suspicious character but also this kind of weird love interest."
It's true — throughout season 1, *Wednesday* found herself in the middle of a love triangle with Xavier and the shape-shifting Tyler (Hunter Doohan).**

In May 2024, Netflix announced that Hynes White would not be returning for *Wednesday* season 2. The announcement came after the actor was accused of sexual assault and sexual activity with a minor.
The allegations first surfaced in January 2023 via an anonymous account on X. Hynes White denied the "baseless" claims in a statement the following June, characterizing them as a "campaign of misinformation."

"Earlier this year, somebody I've never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online," he wrote in an Instagram Story. "Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats. Underage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful. My friend Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim, and her attempts to set the record straight have been ignored. She gave me permission to include her in this message."
He continued, "The rumors are false. I can't accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people's safety. These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims. It's very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people."**
After it was revealed Xavier wouldn't be returning, Hynes White confirmed his departure with an Instagram Story reading, "I had so much fun working on this show... I can't wait to watch season 2."**

Hynes White's absence is addressed in the first episode of season 2, with Nevermore's new principal, Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi), revealing that Xavier transferred to a school in Switzerland, Reichenbach Academy, which co-showrunner Al Gough called "the European version of Nevermore" in a chat with TVLine.
Later, Wednesday's bubbly roommate, Enid (Emma Myers), shows Wednesday a painting of a "creepy crow on a headstone" that was gifted to her by Xavier. She also reads a note from their former classmate.
"I tried texting, but I guess you lost the phone I gave you," reads the note. "Consider this my goodbye gift. The image suddenly flashed in my head. Don't ask me how I know or what it means, but it's connected to you, I'm sure. Who's Wednesday Addams without a mystery to solve, right?"
Speaking with *Vanity Fair* ahead of the season 2 premiere, Ortega called Hynes White leaving the show "a weird redirect, but we're introducing so many different characters that I think it kind of will get lost."
Gough confirmed that the character will not return in future episodes. "We have seen the last of him," he told TVLine.**
Where is Percy Hynes White now?
Over the last few years, Hynes White has appeared in several films, including the 2024 romantic drama *Winter Spring Summer or Fall*, in which he starred opposite Ortega.
He currently has several film projects on deck. One is *Whistle*, a teen horror movie starring Dafne Keen and *Yellowjackets* breakout Sophie Nélisse.**
