- Seth Rogen told Jimmy Fallon he and Evan Goldberg were high on mushrooms during a 2013 Marc Maron interview.

- Rogen said he was "afraid to listen to" the interview.

- The incident did, however, inspire a scene with Bryan Cranston in his new TV show *The Studio*.

Seth Rogen is no stranger to the magical powers of mushrooms — and he's also not immune to them, as he learned the hard way during a 2013 incident alongside his longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg.

Rogen appeared on a recent episode of *The Tonight Show* with Jimmy Fallon, where the host praised his new Apple TV+ series* The Studio* and the performance of costar Bryan Cranston as a character who ingests a large dose of mushrooms before a big presentation.

The comedian told Fallon that the scene is "100 percent based on a thing that happened" in real life, around the time of the premiere of his 2013 film *This Is the End*.

"Not surprisingly, I've mistimed the ingestion of drugs with important events in my life," Rogen said. "We were going to be on Marc Maron's podcast early in the morning, and then right before was the premiere of *This Is the End*, and we stayed up very late doing mushrooms — a lot of mushrooms!"

He said that a car carrying Goldberg then picked him up the next morning, and the pair "looked at each other and we were like, 'I think we're still on mushrooms,' and we were about to do a long, in-depth interview" on Maron's *WTF* podcast.

They hatched a plan to "pound coffee" to "shock our brains back into being normal" before the conversation, but that backfired on them.

"We pound all this coffee, and I think it caused our hearts to beat really fast, and it surged all the mushrooms through our body again in a crazy way," Rogen remembered.

During the interview, "there was a moment where I felt a hand reach out and touch my hand, and it was Evan just staring at me," explained Rogen. "I know the look was, *I'm still 100 percent on a lot of mushrooms right now.*"

Rogen returned the look back at Goldberg, but they got through the conversation unscathed.

"I've been afraid to listen to it, but for better or worse, I've been told you can't tell we're on mushrooms, which I actually think is bad for me as a person," Rogen joked. "It means right now I could be on tons of mushrooms and I'd be acting exactly the same as I am right now!"

Whatever choices he made in the past have clearly paid off, as Rogen's work on *The Studio* earned the actor significant praise from critics, audiences, and the TV Academy.

Among the show's multiple nominations at the 2025 Emmys are three individual nods for Rogen, who also directed and wrote portions of *The Studio. *
