- Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons reveal what Jamie Lee Curtis told them about navigating Hollywood.
- "We're always getting kisses on the forehead or cheek. We slowly became part of that circle, too," Hammons tells EW.
- Lindsay Lohan and Curtis re-teamed for *Freakier Friday* 22 years after their first *Freaky* film.**
After meeting on the set of 2003's *Freaky Friday*, Jamie Lee Curtis remained one of Lindsay Lohan's supportive allies through her career ups and downs. Now, *Freakier Friday*'s new teen stars, Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons, exclusively tell ** that the Oscar-winning actress is bringing them into her *Freaky* family with some sage advice for growing up in Hollywood.
In an interview for EW's cover story on the making of *Freakier Friday, *Butters, 16, and Hammons, 18, reveal that 66-year-old Curtis functioned as a maternal figure for everyone on set, just as she'd done for Lohan 22 years prior.
Butters calls their *Freaky* forerunners the "founding mothers" of the series, and says their love built a solid foundation for the newcomers to stand on. Butters plays Harper, the daughter of Lohan's Anna Coleman, while Hammons costars as Lily, the granddaughter of Curtis' Tess Coleman and Anna's soon-to-be stepdaughter.**

"It's so sweet to see their relationship. They have so much love and admiration for each other. Jamie really does act like her mom on set," Hammons says of filming the movie. "It's so sweet because then they started to act like that toward us. We're always getting kissed on the forehead or cheek, like, 'See you tomorrow, honey.' We slowly became a part of that circle, too."
One benefit of being in Curtis' circle, says Butters, who previously starred in Quentin Tarantino's *Once Upon a Time in Hollywood*, was getting the industry vet's take on maturing in a vicious business.
"One piece of advice Jamie gave was, your life hinges in certain moments, and it's what you do when your life hinges that dictates what it is," Butters remembers. "It's not the thing that has been thrown at you that dictates it; it's your reaction. She has a lot of moments like that. She's a very wise woman, and she knows it, too. She's happy to share her wisdom."

After making the film — which follows Anna and Tess' trials as they body-swap with Harper and Lily in the sequel — the pair confirms that they've become best friends, and also remain close with Curtis and Lohan.
"We have a little group chat!" they say at the same time. "Jamie made it," Hammons clarifies. "She titled it 'FREAKIES!"
Elsewhere in the cover interview, Curtis tells EW that watching Lohan "become a mother and a woman has been a great privilege" across their adult lives, as Lohan escaped a turbulent upbringing in Hollywood to forge a private life for herself in Dubai.

"I grew up so much in the public eye that I never really had the space to take time for me and just live a normal life," Lohan explains. "I found it there."

Adds Curtis of Lohan's personal growth: "I understood the depth of the woman you've become. I give you great respect for that. I couldn't freaking do that at your age. I wouldn't have known how to do that. That speaks volumes to the woman she's become, the type of human she is, the type of mother, wife, friend."**
*Freakier Friday* is in theaters Friday.
