Just because Josh Brolin is starring alongside Andrew Scott, it doesn't mean he knows the secrets to being a Hot Priest.
The actors are both set to star in the latest *Knives Out* franchise entry, *Wake Up Dead Man*. Though details of the plot and characters have been kept tightly under wraps, the first teaser for the film did let one cat out of its bag: Brolin will be playing a frumpy, bearded priest.
"This role, a priest, scared me wildly," Brolin admitted during a visit to* The Late Show with Stephen Colbert*. "You have Glenn Close, [Jeremy] Renner, Mila Kunis, you have Daniel Craig — a lot of really good actors."
Interjecting, Colbert pointed out that the cast also includes Scott, who garnered acclaim for playing the OG Hot Priest on *Fleabag*. "And you're, like, a hot priest in this one, right?" Colbert asked.

At that, Brolin was skeptical. "I'm not so hot," he claimed. "Let's bring the picture out again."
Colbert then showed off the brief glimpse of Brolin offered in the teaser, arguing, "It's an odd angle."
Brolin replied, "It's not really the angle. That is 212 pounds of manly priest."
As for whether Scott offered any tips on playing a hot priest, Brolin deadpanned, "No." He went on to praise the *Ripley* star, who he called "an amazing actor."

*Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery* sees Craig reprising his role as renowned detective Benoit Blanc, called upon to solve yet another mysterious murder. Writer-director Rian Johnson's trilogy of whodunits began with the starry 2019 box office hit *Knives Out*, which first introduced Blanc as he sought to solve the murder of renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). Following its success, Netflix struck a massive deal north of $400 million to develop sequels, leading to 2022's *Glass Onion* and now, *Wake Up Dead Man*.
Just like the first two, the third entry boasts a star-studded list of potential suspects and victims, also including Josh O'Connor, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

Details of the murder case in *Wake Up Dead Man* remain under wraps, but the film's synopsis promises Benoit Blanc's "most dangerous case yet."
Brolin previously teased his involvement in the film during a panel at New York City Comic Con in October, sharing that he was already a fan of the franchise after watching *Knives Out* and *Glass Onion*.
"I loved the acting in both of them. I preferred the first one, and the third one felt more like the first one," Brolin said at the panel attended by PEOPLE. "[Rian] doesn't come off as this, but he has this incredible control over his set. You know, he just has a major presence that reminds me of Denis [Villeneuve]. that reminds me of the Coens, that reminds me of those types of directors. And he's a great writer."

Brolin said the project ended up being "one of my favorite jobs that I've ever had." As for the twisty murder mystery script, he didn't give anything away, but noted, "I read it, and I was just like, 'God, this is so well-written. We just don't read things like this anymore.'"
