The *To All the Boys I've Loved Before* heartthrob is attached to star as the titular hero of *John Rambo*, a prequel film from Millennium Media that will delve into the backstory of Sylvester Stallone's iconic character.

News of the *Rambo* prequel originally arrived in May, with *Sisu* director Jalmari Helander set to helm a script penned by *Informer* and *Black Adam* writing duo, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but the film will tell the Vietnam War origins of a young John Rambo during his time as an elite Green Beret in the U.S. Army. Filming is set to begin in January.

"We are thrilled to introduce a fresh new chapter to the *Rambo* legacy," Millennium President Jonathan Yunger said in a statement provided to **. "This project is a tribute to one of the best franchises in movie history that will appeal to both longtime fans and new audiences alike."

Created by David Morell in his 1972 novel *First Blood*, Rambo has become one of the most recognizable heroes in film history after the book was adapted into an action-packed blockbuster with Stallone in the lead role. The franchise sees Rambo — haunted by his time at war, but equipped with superior military skills — using his expertise against corrupt police officers, crime syndicates, and enemy troops.

The final film saw Rambo confront his past, using his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge with one final mission. Altogether, the film series has grossed upwards of $850 million. Stallone starred in every entry, co-wrote the screenplays of all five films, and directed the 2008 film.

Centineo rose to fame for his role in the *To All the Boys* films, adapted from Jenny Han's popular book series. He has since embraced the world of action as Atom Smasher in DC's *Black Adam* adaptation and Alex Garland's *Warfare*, in addition to leading the spy series, *The Recruit*. The series, about a CIA lawyer entangled in dangerous international affairs, was canceled earlier this year after two seasons.
