Holy Threads, Batman!

James Gunn logged on to his favorite social media platform Friday to quash more rumors about *The Batman Part II*.

The *Superman* director responded to a post claiming that Batman's sidekick Robin will appear in the upcoming Matt Reeves–directed sequel.

"Guys please stop believing this nonsense," Gunn wrote. "I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about the Batman 2."

Gunn, who serves as the co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, also shut down rumors that fan-favorite villain Hush would appear in the film. "Everything you've heard is a total guess or made up," he wrote in response to a fan on Monday. In an earlier post in the same thread, he said, "No one in the world knows anything about the concept for the story except four people."

Though Batman has received countless big-screen adaptations over the years, Robin has seldom been given the same treatment. The character's only theatrical appearances came in the 1966 movie *Batman*, which saw Burt Ward reprise the role after playing him on the Adam West–starring TV series of the same name, and the '90s movies *Batman Forever* and *Batman & Robin*, which saw Chris O'Donnell play the character.

(Contrarians may argue that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's John Blake in *The Dark Knight Rises* should also count as a live-action appearance of Robin, since he revealed at the end of the movie that his actual legal name was revealed to be, well, Robin. But Robin's name is never actually Robin, and Blake's story shares no similarities to traditional comic book versions of the character.)

Robin — a mantle that has been taken by numerous characters, including Dick Grayson and Tim Drake — has also appeared in various animated projects like the *Teen Titans* and *Batman: The Animated Series* shows, as well as movies like *The Lego Batman Movie* and *Teen Titans Go to the Movies*.

The filmmaker previously announced that DC Studios will produce two Batman movie series concurrently: one in the standalone universe established by Reeves' 2022 film *The Batman* starring Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, and the other within Gunn's DCU.

That second Batman series, which will launch with Andy Muschietti's *The Brave and the Bold*, will see a different actor take on the Dark Knight's cowl, and presumably crossover with other DCU characters like David Corenswet's Superman or the Green Lanterns from the forthcoming *Lanterns* series.

While various rumors have circulated about who may be cast as the DCU's Batman, Gunn definitively stated earlier this week that casting is not yet underway for the project.

Additionally, after numerous delays, DC's parent company Warner Bros. announced Thursday that *The Batman Part II* will finally begin production in the spring of 2026. The film is currently slated to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.

Prior to *Superman*'s release, Gunn told ** that he's "working on" another movie connected to Metropolis' favorite Kryptonian hero. "Is it a straight-up *Superman *sequel? I would not say necessarily," he clarified.

Other upcoming DC projects include the movies *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* and *Clayface*, as well as HBO's *Lanterns*, which will all debut in 2026. **
