*Saturday Night Live*'s 50th-anniversary special was the biggest broadcast in the show's history, but according to Pete Davidson, it had the worst audience.
While recently reuniting with friend and fellow *SNL* alum Seth Meyers, Davidson joked that it didn't matter whether he was on stage for a live bit or in his seat watching a pre-taped sketch — the star-studded crowd was bad either way.
"As you know from *SNL40* — terrible audience," Davidson told his pal on *Late Night With Seth Meyers*. "It's a terrible audience 'cause it's just famous people, and famous people only like themselves."
When Meyers' in-studio crowd expressed surprise, Davidson doubled down: "It's true! I'm guilty of this," he replied, joking that even he didn't care about the sketches he wasn't in.
Meyers then quipped, "I remember when [your] pre-tape was playing, you were the only one laughing. We were like, 'Oh, he's coming in way too hot.'"

It was indeed a star-studded occasion. The historic *SNL50* broadcast brought together the current comedians on the show and legendary alums, including OG cast members Chevy Chase, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman, along with other vets like Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, and many more.
When they weren't performing, the actors enjoyed the show from the crowd, while the rest of the audience was filled with celebs who came to celebrate — former guests, hosts, and friends like Sabrina Carpenter, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, and Paul Simon. They, too, joined in on the fun, popping up on stage or being called upon by the *SNL* gang.

But on the bright side, the illustrious crew of spectators meant all kinds of fun pairings when it came time for the seating arrangements. To prove this point, Meyers whipped out a photo of Davidson at *SNL50 *seated beside none other than Oscar-winning legend Meryl Streep.
"Pete and Meryl," Meyers observed. "Classic."
Laughing, Davidson replied that Streep turned out to be the perfect viewing partner — even though they made for such an odd couple.

"Meryl rules," he said. "In typical *SNL* fashion, they don't tell you anything. You don't even know what's going on. I get to my seat and I just look and I'm like, 'This can't be right.'"
He couldn't help but apologize as he cozied up next to Streep: "It was Meryl Streep, and I just sat down," he said. "I'm like, 'I'm so sorry that I'm sitting next to you. You're the best.' And she's the best."

In addition to vibing with Streep, Davidson reunited with his good friend John Mulaney for a sketch preaching the appeal of grimy 1970s New York City. He also revived his hilariously stupid Chad character to join forces with Newman, one of the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players, as she returned to Studio 8H.
"Chad's fun — it's my one character that I got to do," Davidson told Meyers, laughing as he added, "In eight years of *SNL*, I had *one* character. But it's not a very flattering character. Everyone was so excited to see Laraine, and I just got my shirt off."
