James Gunn has been teasing some sort of *Superman* sequel in various interviews and on social, but the studio gave us a major clue during an earnings call on Thursday morning.

The writer and director of this summer's event film and the co-head of DC Studios is planning to write and direct the next installment in the Super-Family, David Zaslav, head of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, said on the call.

"In film, James Gunn is busy preparing the next installments of the DC Super-Family, including *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* (2026), *Clayface* (2026), and the next Wonder Woman," a shareholder letter accompanying the earnings call reads. "In addition, *The Batman II* (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development."

The letter continues, "The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including *The Penguin*, which recently garnered 24 Emmy nominations and was watched by nearly 20 million HBO Max subscribers; the upcoming new season of *Peacemaker*;* *and the debut of *Lanterns* in 2026. In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio's broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences, and social."

Gunn recently told ** in an interview ahead of *Superman*'s release that he was thinking about a sequel. "But is it a straight-up *Superman* sequel? I would not say necessarily," he added.

On the social media platform Threads, Gunn teased inquiring fans with news that David Corenswet's Superman has a major role in this next movie, but that it's not *Superman 2.* When asked if the project was a direct sequel, Gunn replied, "I'm not sure how you define 'direct sequel.' I pretty much think of *Peacemaker* season 2 as a direct sequel."

Whatever it is, "it's a way's off" from being announced, Gunn said.

But let's not bury the other big update: *The Batman Part II* is finally coming together. After writer-director Matt Reeves confirmed that he handed in the finished script for it, which he wrote with collaborator Mattson Tomlin, Zaslav announced that the long-awaited sequel will start shooting next spring.

Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as the Dark Knight from the 2022 movie, though his part remains separate from the Batman character who will appear in the DCU franchise, which includes *Superman*.

*The Batman Part II* is currently set for release on Oct. 1, 2027, following multiple delays.
