Brandon Blackstock, former talent manager and ex-husband of music superstar Kelly Clarkson, has died at the age of 48.

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," a representative for the family told* * in a statement. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

Clarkson postponed the rest of her Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace this week, announcing in a statement released on Aug. 6 that Blackstock had been ill for the past year and that she needed to be present for their two children, daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander. The dates were moved to late July 2026.

"I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding," Clarkson said.**

Clarkson separated from Blackstock in 2020 after they had been married for nearly seven years, citing irreconcilable differences.

Blackstock, a former talent manager, was the son of Narvel Blackstock, a producer and manager who also managed Clarkson during the early days of her career. Brandon was also the stepson of country singer Reba McEntire, Clarkson's close friend. McEntire was married to Narvel Blackstock between 1989 and 2015.**

Brandon Blackstock also had a working relationship with Clarkson during their marriage, serving as her music manager for several years and as executive producer of *The Kelly Clarkson Show* between 2019 and 2020. He reportedly retired from the industry in 2021 following his separation from Clarkson, moving from Los Angeles to Montana to become a full-time rancher.**

Clarkson and Blackstock were embroiled in a long and contentious legal battle at the end of their marriage that involved disputes regarding custody, spousal support, and the division of property, including a ranch in Montana they owned jointly. They finalized their divorce in 2022, and Clarkson was granted primary physical custody of their two children.

Their separation served as the catalyst for Clarkson's 10th studio album,* Chemistry,* released in 2023. She described it not as a divorce album, but a relationship album.

"I never thought I'd experience love like that," Clarkson told Zane Lowe of her relationship with Blackstock while promoting the record. "I never thought I would ever have that. And people are fortunate to have that, to at least experience it. It didn't work out, but that doesn't mean it was all bad. It just means it didn't end well."

"There's so much loss with that, and I'd never experienced grief like that," she added of their separation. "But I also think it's very freeing to go, 'We got to let each other go.'"

Blackstock is survived by his sons, Seth and Remington; his daughters, Savannah and River; his grandson, Lake; his father, Narvel Blackstock; and his siblings, Shelby, Shawna, and Chassidy.**
