- *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* is the fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's *Spider-Man* franchise.
- Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man in the sequel, with Jon Bernthal's Punisher along for the ride.
- The film is slated to swoop into theaters next summer.
While Marvel is integrating legendary comic book characters like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men into its fledgling cinematic universe, the franchise still has a few reliable heroes in its stable.** **One of them is Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
*Spider-Man: No Way Home*, after all, grossed nearly $2 billion upon its release in 2021, making it by far the studio's most lucrative post-*Endgame* project. Sony, which distributes the Spider-Man films, is reportedly developing a new trilogy featuring the web-slinger, though Holland clarified in 2022 that "we don't know what the future looks like" following that announcement.**
It's understandable, then, that they'd want to deliver at least one more Spider-Man adventure ahead of its next crossover events: *Avengers: Doomsday *and* Avengers: Secret Wars, *the latter of which Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige described as a "reset" for the MCU.
So, what's next for Holland's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man? Who will he be squaring off against? And who's joining the cast? Here's everything we know about *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*.
How did Spider-Man: No Way Home end?
Zendaya and Tom Holland in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. Sony Pictures
*Spider-Man: No Way Home* was fan service at its most shameless (and satisfying). Directed by Jon Watts, the film finds Holland's Peter Parker within a multiversal calamity, confronted by villains from decades-old *Spider-Man* films — including Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), and Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) — *and* decades-old Spider-Men played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
To clean up this mess, Peter must allow Doctor Strange to cast a spell that makes everyone in his life, including the Avengers, forget who he is.
With the spell complete, Peter constructs a new Spider-Man suit and starts from scratch, all while mourning the fact that his girlfriend, MJ (Zendaya), and best friend, Ned (Jacob Batalon), no longer remember their relationships with him.**
What will Spider-Man: Brand New Day be about?
Tom Holland in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. Sony Pictures
There's no official synopsis as of yet for *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, but the ending of *No Way Home *— and the upcoming film's title — speak to an era of newness for the character. In April 2025, Holland himself called the film a "fresh start."
In a 2024 chat with *Deadline*, longtime *Spider-Man* producer Amy Pascal offered some insight into *Brand New Day*'s story. "We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker, and that he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard. So that's what the movie is about."
The *Spider-Man* sequel will likely look and feel different from its predecessors. After all, Destin Daniel Cretton, who helmed *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings *(2021) and the upcoming *Wonder Man *for Marvel, is taking the directorial reins from Watts*, *who spearheaded all three entries in the previous trilogy.
Speaking at CinemaCon in April, Cretton described the film's story as "emotional."
He added, "I'm spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We're all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven't really seen before."
All of this dovetails with remarks Holland made to ** ahead of the release of *No Way Home*. "We were all treating [*No Way Home*] as the end of a franchise, let's say," he said. "I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you'd be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the *Homecoming* trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don't know. But we were definitely treating [*No Way Home*] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it."**
Is there a Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer?
*Spider-Man: Brand New Day* has yet to drop a proper trailer. But a brief teaser posted on August 1 highlights a red-and-blue Spider-Man suit that's more accurate to the comics than Holland's previous, modernized suit.
"Something brand new is coming," teases the post accompanying the clip.
Who's in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast?

In addition to Holland, Zendaya and Batalon will reprise their roles for *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*.
In June 2025, EW confirmed that Jon Bernthal, who appeared as vigilante Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, on several of Marvel's Netflix series, would reprise the role in *Brand New Day*.
Bernthal is currently having a ball with The Punisher. After a six-year hiatus from the character, he reprised Castle on the Disney+ series *Daredevil: Born Again* (2025) and will soon star in a one-off special that he is also co-writing.

Another notable addition is *Stranger Things* star Sadie Sink, whose casting was revealed in March 2025. As EW noted at the time, many are theorizing that Sink could be playing X-Men member Jean Grey, the telekinetic mutant at the heart of Marvel's beloved "Dark Phoenix Saga," but details about her character remain unconfirmed. Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner have played Grey in previous X-Men films.**
Is there a Spider-Man: Brand New Day release date?
Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. Matt Kennedy/Sony Pictures
Yes, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* is currently slated for a July 31, 2026, release.
As of this writing, *Brand New Day *will be the last Marvel film to be released before the studio's upcoming Avengers crossovers: *Doomsday* and *Secret Wars*.**
