- Sydney Sweeney's alleged status as a registered Republican drew criticism from the internet.
- Former *The View* cohost Meghan McCain, however, offered support to the *Euphoria* star.
- "Leave her alone," McCain urged on social media.
After the internet blew up amid news that Florida voting registration records indicated that *Euphoria* actress Sydney Sweeney registered to vote in the state as a Republican, controversial political commentator Meghan McCain has defended the 27-year-old star.
The former *View* cohost urged her followers to stop criticizing Sweeney after BuzzFeed was first to highlight Saturday that someone listed as "Sydney B. Sweeney" (the star's middle name is Bernice) with a birthdate of Sept. 12, 1997 — the actress' previously reported birthday — registered as a Republican on June 14, 2024.
"Leave her alone," McCain shared on X over the weekend, separating her words with several clap emojis to emphasize her point.

President Donald Trump also voiced support for Sweeney after a reporter informed him during a recent visit to Pennsylvania that Sweeney was registered as a Republican in Florida.**
"She's a registered Republican? Oh, now I love her ad," Trump said, referencing additional controversy surrounding the actress' new American Eagle jeans ad that many interpreted as promoting eugenics.
Trump continued, "You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That's one I wouldn't have known, but I'm glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic."

** has reached out to representatives for Sweeney for comment.
Sweeney previously drew criticism after imagery surfaced from her mother's 60th birthday party in 2022, which showed attendees sporting Blue Lives Matter articles and MAGA-themed red hats that read "Make America Sixty Again" on the front.
"The people in the pictures weren't even my family," Sweeney told *Variety* afterward. "The people who brought the things that people were upset about were actually my mom's friends from L.A. who have kids that are walking outside in the Pride parade, and they thought it would be funny to wear because they were coming to Idaho."**

She added, "People are so fast to build someone up, and then they love tearing them down."
Outside of discourse surrounding her alleged politics, Sweeney has quickly risen through the ranks of Hollywood to become a leading actress.
