According to Lego, she achieved "fabric-like movement" with the design

A woman turned her creativity with Legos into a one-of-a-kind wedding dress.

Satu Aaltonen, a Lego enthusiast from Finland, used the plastic toy bricks to artfully fashion a wearable dress featuring a blue and white color palette, sleeves and a small train, along with an ornate headpiece and veil to match. According to a Lego press release, Aaltonen managed to achieve "fabric-like movement" with the design.

She used thousands of Lego pieces to create the dress, which she has named the "Bride of the Frozen Crown," per Finnish outlet Yle.

Explaining her inspiration, Aaltonen told the outlet, "I wanted to create something out of Lego that has not been seen before. For me, building is both art and play, but also a meditative counterbalance to my everyday computer work."

She said she made the dress without any glue. It's designed so that one side can be opened and closed.

"When moving in the dress, it makes a sound like walking on ice," Aaltonen noted. "The Lego pieces rattle against each other."

While she's proud of its aesthetic appeal, she joked that she "wouldn't dare" attempt to sit down in the dress. "But you only need to walk to the altar and dance a little at the wedding party," she told Yle.

Aaltonen shows off her dress being worn by a model in a Vimeo video. In the video's description, she shared that the design features "1,200 white leaf pieces that form crystalline structures, frozen flowers and a translucent train that shimmers."

"What looks delicate and ethereal is, in fact, a meticulously engineered structure, built by hand over six months," the description added.

The wedding dress and veil are currently on display in the 2025-2026 Masterpiece Gallery at Lego House in Billund, Denmark, where the toy brand is headquartered. This year's gallery features 17 exhibitors from 12 countries, according to Lego.

Highlights include 3D, wall-mounted mosaics celebrating Mexican culture and folklore, a Victorian dollhouse with historically accurate interiors, as well as a Fender guitar and other musical instruments — all brought to life with Lego bricks.

"The Masterpiece Gallery is our way of celebrating the creativity, talent and passion of the global LEGO fan community, and inspiring the builders of today and tomorrow," Kathrine Kirk Muff, managing director of Lego House, said in a statement. "This year's exhibitors show just how limitless a LEGO brick can be."

"We hope guests leave energised to build in new ways, perhaps even with skills they've learned in the new LEGO Masters Academy," Muff added.

As for Aaltonen, she is working on five other Lego dresses that will form a series along with her "Bride of the Frozen Crown" design.

"The greatest compliment is when people are surprised to discover that the dresses are made of Lego bricks. I want to inspire wonder in viewers and show that creativity has no limits," she told Yle.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Planned Parenthood on Tuesday shuttered its two clinics in Louisiana over what the organization said were mounting financial and political challenges that made operating in the state no longer possible after more than 40 years.

The closures make Louisiana the most populous of just four states with no Planned Parenthood locations.

The exit underlines the pressures on Planned Parenthood as it warns of wider closures nationwide in the face of Medicaid funding cuts in President Donald Trump's tax and spending bill. The organization is also halting advocacy work in Louisiana, where the state's Republican leaders have cheered on the closures.

The closures were "not the result of a lack of need" but rather the outcome of "relentless political assaults that have made it impossible for us to continue operating sustainably in Louisiana," said Melaney Linton, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.

Supporters have said the closures will have a detrimental impact on Louisiana, where Planned Parenthood has never been licensed to perform abortions in the state but did provide other medical care services to nearly 11,000 patients last year at its Baton Rouge and New Orleans clinics.

Advocates and medical professionals fear that the organization's departure will further exacerbate reproductive health care in a state that Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data shows already has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. In addition, a March report by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's office noted the state's significant OB-GYN shortage and health care deserts.

Planned Parenthood warns of more closures

Trump's spending and tax plan instructs the federal government to end Medicaid payments for one year to certain abortion providers. While the organization is seeking to have its funding restored through the courts, Planned Parenthood officials have warned that around one-third of roughly 600 clinics could be forced to close.

Earlier this year, five clinics in California and eight in Iowa and Minnesota shut their doors. In the past week, the Wisconsin affiliate announced that it would stop providing abortion and the Arizona affiliate said it would halt Medicaid-funded services.

Louisiana joins Wyoming, North Dakota and Mississippi as states where the organization is absent.

"This is a win for babies, a win for mothers, and a win for LIFE!" Republican Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry posted on social media Tuesday.

High numbers of Medicaid patients

Planned Parenthood provides a wide range of services, including cancer screenings and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment. Federal Medicaid money was already not paying for abortion, but affiliates relied on Medicaid to stay afloat.

In Louisiana, a state with one of the nation's highest poverty rates, 60% of patients at Planned Parenthood clinics used Medicaid. Last year, the clinics in Louisiana provided nearly 30,000 tests for sexually transmitted infections, 14,400 visits for birth control, 1,800 cancer screenings and 655 ultrasounds.

Nearly a decade ago, Jordyn Martin said she turned to Planned Parenthood when she couldn't afford medical services anywhere else. While at the clinic, a doctor offered Martin a free HIV test. A week later, she was diagnosed with the virus.

"Planned Parenthood saved my life," said Martin, who went on to volunteer for the organization.

Connecting patients with new providers

Outside of the New Orleans Planned Parenthood clinic Tuesday, several people gathered and brought thank-you notes to the organization that has spent four decades in Louisiana. Inside the building, up until close, staff worked to connect patients with alternative health care providers.

Starting Wednesday, calls to Planned Parenthood numbers in Louisiana will be transferred to the nearest location in Texas or Arkansas.

Michelle Erenberg, the head of a New Orleans-based abortion rights group named LIFT, said people have been contacting her for help to find new clinics. She said it was important to connect people with providers but worries about the strain it will put on clinics that are already short-staffed.

"Whether patients are going to be able to get appointments quickly, or access all of the services that Planned Parenthood provided, is unknown at this point," she said.

The Trump administration is pulling a federal watchdog off the beat in Washington, effective Wednesday, stripping funding from the Council of Inspectors General.

Removing the council's funding will mean a further hollowing out of the work of federal inspectors general and internal government investigators who are supposed to root out waste, fraud, abuse and misconduct in the administration.

The council, which is an independent entity within the executive branch, is tasked with addressing "integrity, economy and effectiveness issues that transcend individual Government agencies," according to the council's website.

The Trump administration argues the inspectors general are "corrupt."

"Inspectors general are meant to be impartial watchdogs identifying waste and corruption on behalf of the American people," a spokesman for the White House Office of Management and Budget told CBS News in a statement. "Unfortunately, they have become corrupt, partisan, and in some cases, have lied to the public. The American people will no longer be funding this corruption."

The council, often referred to as CIGIE, helps train, equip and provide investigative expertise to the dozens of federal inspectors general. Its staff helps operate hotlines for tips, hosts websites for the inspectors and provides data analysis and investigative tools to help with probes. CIGIE helps support nearly 14,000 federal investigative employees, according to a former CIGIE official.

Mark Greenblatt, a former inspector general for the Interior Department and a former CIGIE chair, posted a statement Tuesday warning about the impact of the cuts.

"Without this infrastructure, I fear the individual inspectors general will be isolated, their effectiveness diminished, and their ability to protect taxpayer interests severely compromised," Greenblatt said.

CIGIE also helps review possible misconduct by federal inspectors general themselves, in a "policing the police" type of mission. Greenblatt alleges the organization is being defunded because of its prior review of a federal inspector appointed during the first Trump term.

Mike Ware, the former inspector general for the Small Business Administration, says the council's defunding could cripple the ability of federal watchdogs to monitor the administration's actions. Ware said nearly 30 inspectors general offices depend on CIGIE to host their websites, which he says are "essential for transparency and public accountability."

"It would also dismantle critical cross-agency collaboration by eliminating shared data analytics platforms that help expose waste, fraud and abuse," Ware said. "Just as concerning, it would strip away the training and professional development infrastructure that sustains the 14,000 oversight professionals dedicated to safeguarding taxpayer dollars."

The move has raised rare, bipartisan criticism. GOP Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Susan Collins of Maine criticized the Trump administration's decision, writing in a letter this week, "Absent immediate action, (CIGIE) will need to furlough staff and terminate important functions that help prevent and detect waste, fraud, and abuse throughout the government."

In their letter, Grassley and Collins said, "We urgently request an explanation for these actions and ask that you to promptly reverse course," in order to allow CIGIE to continue its "important oversight work uninterrupted."

The two Republican senators, in an unusual rebuke of a decision inside their own party, have asked the Trump administration to hand over records and answers about the cuts by Friday.

OK, Shohei

Shohei Ohtani picked up in the postseason where he left off another likely MVP regular season — with a bang. Ohtani took his usual leadoff spot in the Dodgers' lineup for Game 1 of their wild-card series against the Reds Tuesday night.

He worked Reds starter Hunter Greene to a 2-1 count. Greene responded with a 100 mph fastball over the inside corner of the plate. Ohtani turned on it and deposited a laser into the right-field bleachers at Dodger Stadium.

ESPN's Jon Sciambi barely had time to call the home run before it was over the wall for a 1-0 Dodgers lead.

— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) October 1, 2025

There's good reason. The home run was a first-of-its-kind. Or at least a first-of-its-kind in the Statcast era.

The ball left Ohtani's bat at 117.7 mph and traveled 375 feet on a line drive. That's the fastest home run hit off a 100-plus mph pitch since Statcast started tracking such stats in 2015. By a long shot.

Per MLB Stats, then-Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers previously held the distinction with a 113.7 mph blast off a 100 mph Gerrit Cole fastball against the Yankees on June 27, 2021. Ohtani's exit velocity Tuesday bested Devers' by a full 4 mph.

[Yahoo Sports TV is here! Watch live shows and highlights 24/7]

Ohtani's home run is also one of the hardest hit of any kind in the postseason in the Statcast era. Per MLB.com's Sarah Langs, only Kyle Schwarber, Giancarlo Stanton and Ohtani himself have hit harder home runs since 2015.

It adds up to a stellar start to Ohtani's postseason. At this point, we shouldn't expect anything less.

It appears Ryan Murphy has seen the calls for him to tackle a series about Luigi Mangione, the young man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson late last year.

The Emmy-winning television creator and writer revealed that he has, in fact, considered developing a season of his Netflix true crime anthology *Monster *about Mangione while speaking to *Variety *for a larger profile on Charlie Hunnam, who is set to portray serial killer and body snatcher Ed Gein in the upcoming season 3 of *Monster.*

"We have a 'maybe one day' file," Murphy said of stories that just aren't ready yet, confirming that Mangione is on his radar. However, it's still much too early to map out that narrative. "We know nothing about him," Murphy said. "There was nothing to write — we didn't have information yet. Maybe something will come out in the trial." **

Mangione, a 26-year-old from Maryland, captured national attention after he was taken into custody for the fatal shooting of Thompson during the early hours of Dec. 4, 2024 outside of a hotel in Manhattan. Prosecutors have maintained that Mangione was driven by anger against the health care industry and corporate greed, citing personal diary entries obtained following his arrest.**

Mangione was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury in April on 11 counts, including one count of murder in the first degree and other weapons and forgery charges. He faces life in prison without possibility of parole if convicted. Mangione, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him, also faces charges in Pennsylvania, where he was arrested after a week-long manhunt.**

Murphy fans have been campaigning for a series about Mangione since the arrest, making note of the uncanny resemblance between him and actor Dave Franco. Franco is well aware of the fervent fan casting. "I've never received more texts in my life about anything," Franco told *The Hollywood Reporter* earlier this year about the folks who've reached out about a Mangione project.

"Not just friends — anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it," Franco said, adding that no official offers have come in just yet.

Several documentaries about Mangione have already been released, including Hulu and 20/20's *Manhunt: Luigi Mangione and the CEO Murder *and HBO Max's *Who is Luigi Mangione? *Alex Gibney, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind 2007's *Taxi to the Dark Side*, is also developing a project about the shooting.

NEW YORK -- Garrett Crochet struck out 11 in 7 2/3 outstanding innings and the Boston Red Sox went ahead after getting Max Fried out of the game and opened their American League wild-card series with a 3-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday.

Boston grabbed the advantage in the best-of-three series on Masataka Yoshida's pinch-hit, two-run single in the seventh inning and Alex Bregman added an RBI double in the ninth. Carlos Rodon starts for the Yankees against Brayan Bello on Wednesday.

Crochet (1-0) allowed four hits in his first career postseason start after making four relief appearances for the Chicago White Sox in the 2020 and 2021 playoffs. He walked none and retired 17 straight at one point.

After getting the first two outs of the second inning, Crochet gave up a homer to Anthony Volpe that gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

Crochet did not allow another baserunner until permitting a single to center field by Volpe on his 109th pitch. The left-hander ended his night at a career-high 117 pitches by reaching 100 mph on a called third strike to Austin Wells, who thought he walked.

Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman retired Jose Caballero on a fly ball to end the eighth after balking Volpe to second on a disengagement violation.

Chapman allowed three straight singles to load the bases in the ninth but escaped. He struck out Giancarlo Stanton, got Jazz Chisholm Jr. to fly out to right field and fanned Trent Grisham on a 101 mph fastball to notch his 11th career postseason save.

Crochet did not get the lead until Fried exited after firing 6 1/3 scoreless innings and 102 pitches.

Luke Weaver (0-1) entered and struggled to command his changeup, walking Ceddanne Rafaela to cap an 11-pitch encounter. Nick Sogard hit another changeup for a hustle double to right field, putting runners at second and third.

Yoshida batted for Rob Refsnyder and the Red Sox went ahead when he hit a fastball to center field for a base hit, scoring both runners.

In the top of the ninth, Bregman doubled to left field off David Bednar after Trevor Story singled and stole second.

Fried allowed four hits in his New York postseason debut. The left-hander struck out six and walked three, including a free pass to Carlos Narvaez in the sixth on a nine-pitch plate appearance that drove up his pitch count.

Sherri Shepherd says she didn't vote until joining *The View* — and that one of her fellow cohosts was instrumental in helping her realize the importance of performing that civic duty.

"I was a Jehovah's Witness, so I didn't start voting until I got on *The View*," Shepherd shared on Tuesday's episode of *The Jamie Kern Lima Show*. The Emmy-nominated talk show host, comedian, and actress explained that she was "not into politics," but "Barbara Walters said something to me that made me do it."

When the late broadcast journalist and longtime cohost of the popular daytime talk show realized that her new cohost "didn't know anything about politics," Shepherd said Walters came to her and simply suggested, "'Dear, read a book.'"**

"All I knew was what the church taught me. That's what it was. I didn't think for myself. I just knew what the church had taught me or what I had learned when I was a Witness," Shepherd elaborated.

The 58-year-old Chicago native previously revealed in her first year as a *View *cohost that 2008 would be "my first time I'll be voting because I was in a religion where we didn't vote." Members of the Christian denomination are encouraged to "remain politically neutral for religious reasons," according to official Church doctrine, based on interpretations of several Biblical passages, and the idea that "by remaining neutral, we are able to speak freely to people of all political persuasions about the good news of God's Kingdom."****

But Shepherd recalled that when Walters told her to get herself educated, "What I realized is sometimes we have to get out of where we live, we have to go travel the world, we have to meet people that are different from us. Because when you don't, that's how you get prejudice and that's how you get judgmental. When you don't meet people that are not like you, when you meet people that are different from you."

Shepherd credited the shift in her political perspective to Walters as well as current cohosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg, recalling the former telling her, "'Sherri, the moment you open your mouth, half the world is going to hate you. So go by what you feel and what you think.'"

Three times could be the charm for a burly brown bear who's once again vying for Fat Bear Week champion.

Bear 32 Chunk has lost the title to bear 128 Grazer two years in a row.

However this year, he's facing a new challenger: bear 856, who beat Grazer in this year's semifinals.

It's up to the public to decide who will win the March Madness-style bracket polls, starring some of biggest bears at Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska.

Here's what to know about the two finalists competing on Sept. 30.

Bear 32 Chunk

Bear 32 Chunk was a Fat Bear Week finalist in both 2023 and 2024.

Fat Bear Week's website describes Chunk as one of the largest bears along the Brooks River. That's where Katmai's famous bears feast on salmon all summer long.

His features include narrow-set eyes, a strong brow ridge, "a distinctive scar across his muzzle and a broken, yet healing jaw." It's believed he may have permanently injured his jaw in a fight with another bear this past mating season.

Initially, there were concerns about Chunk being able to maintain dominance along the river and pack on enough pounds to survive the upcoming winter, but the event's website says, "Chunk used his determination and adaptability to persevere through injury."

Bear 856

Bear 856 is one of the largest bears in the river.

Bear 856 is another massive adult male, "with an assertive disposition equal to his size," according to Fat Bear Week's website.

For more than a decade, he was "the river's most consistently dominant bear." However, now that he's in his mid-20s, bear 856 picks his battles carefully, often yielding to larger bears.

The website says he also patiently fishes in less productive areas of the river, and "when fishing, he frequently licks his lips, which is a behavioral characteristic expressed by few bears at Brooks River."

Survival of the fattest: It's not just fun and games for the bears of Katmai National Park

Fat Bear Week voting

Brown bear 128, known as Grazer, whose cub was killed by her opponent in July, was crowned the 2024 champion of the annual park contest that "celebrates the healthy appetites of brown bears" ahead of winter when they will not eat or drink until they emerge in spring, the National Park Service reported. Here she is pictured on Sept. 12, 2024.

Who will win?

In reality, bear 32 Chunk, bear 856 and all of this year's competitors are already winners for bulking up for winter.

But for bragging rights, voting for Fat Bear Week finals opens at noon ET on Sept. 30 on the event's website.

The poll closes at 9 p.m. the same day.

(Reuters) -A federal judge in Rhode Island on Tuesday temporarily blocked the Trump administration from cutting $233 million in counterterrorism grant funds for Democratic-led states, including New York and Illinois.

Eleven states sued the Trump administration on Monday over last-minute changes to counterterrorism grants, saying that Republican President Donald Trump was retaliating against Democratic-led states by redirecting funding away from them just as the fiscal year ends.

The states said they needed a next-day restraining order, or else the funds would expire before they had a chance to challenge Trump's action in court.

U.S. District Judge Mary S. McElroy agreed, saying the funds had been cut in a "slapdash" manner that likely violated the Administrative Procedures Act, which prohibits the government from making arbitrary or capricious decisions.

McElroy issued a temporary restraining order that prevented the Trump administration from diverting the counterterrorism funds until the court case has a chance to play out.

The timing of the funding cuts was concerning, McElroy said, because they were made just as the fiscal year was ending and just three days after a different federal judge blocked the Trump administration from withholding DHS funds from 20 Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia.

The specific funding cuts were made on Saturday, when the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency announced final annual funding numbers for the Homeland Security Grant Program, FEMA's largest such program. Those grants pay for states' counterterrorism and emergency preparedness projects.

The 11 states and the District of Columbia said they had been expecting $459 million in funds from the Homeland Security Grant Program, and the Trump administration had revised that down to $226 million.

Some states were particularly hard hit, with Illinois taking a 69% reduction in funds, and New York receiving a 79% reduction, according to the lawsuit.

(Reuters) -A Mexican immigrant wounded by a sniper in a shooting at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Dallas last week has died of his injuries, an ICE official said on Tuesday, making him the second detainee killed in the attack.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security identified the deceased man as Miguel Angel Garcia, 31, who media accounts say was a house painter who came to the U.S. as a child.

Another immigrant from El Salvador was killed at the scene of the September 24 attack, his wife said. A third victim from Venezuela remains in a hospital, according to media accounts.

The shooting took place two weeks after Charlie Kirk, co-founder of the conservative student political group Turning Point USA and a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot and killed by a rooftop sniper during a speaking event in Utah. Kirk's killing has fueled fears that a recent wave of political violence in the United States could accelerate.

A GoFundMe page set up for Garcia's family said he was the sole provider for his wife and children. His wife was expecting a baby "due to be delivered any day now."

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said at a daily press conference that Mexican officials had made it possible for the man's mother to travel to the U.S.

"They are in contact with the family in all respects, including financial and moral support, and, if needed, to file a legal complaint," she said.

DHS said Garcia entered the U.S. illegally on an unknown date and was arrested by local police in Arlington, Texas, on August 8, and charged with driving under the influence and evading arrest. ICE requested that Garcia be held for possible deportation and took him into custody on the morning of September 24, the day of the shooting, DHS said.

Garcia had previous convictions in 2011 and 2017 for providing false information and evading arrest, DHS said.

Norlan Guzman-Fuentes, a 37-year-old from El Salvador, was the man killed at the scene of the attack, according to ICE.

"He was caught in the crossfire of an attack he had nothing to do with," his wife, Yorlen Villatoro, said in a separate GoFundMe page to raise funds to cover funeral expenses.

Guzman-Fuentes entered the U.S. illegally on an unknown date and was arrested by the Dallas Police Department on August 25 on an aggravated assault charge and warrant for driving while intoxicated, ICE said. While the assault charge was later dismissed, ICE took him into custody on September 24 related to his lack of legal status.

The third victim who remains hospitalized is Venezuelan immigrant Jose Andres Bordones-Molina, according to media reports.

No government personnel were injured in the shooting, which took place around 6:40 a.m. outside an ICE office where people detained as part of the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration were processed. The sniper fired "indiscriminately," according to officials, on an area where detainees were being escorted from vehicles into the building.

The shooter, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials.

The shooter left behind notes saying he acted alone in an attack intended to kill and "terrorize" ICE agents, whose work he viewed as "human trafficking," officials said last week.

Nancy Larson, acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas, said at a news conference last week that it seemed clear from the gunman's writings "he did not intend to kill detainees or harm them."
